This is wonderful running terrain - so it is a pity I was on my bike. Started at the top of the hill between Ballogie and Finzean, ie at the Corsedardar stones, and took the track running West. This has been thoroughly trashed by forestry vehicles, so it would have been better to start lower down at 587949 where the track is much better. Having survived the corrugated mud and puddles I got to this better track, followed it to the left the round to the right to 585937. Here I took the "track" going WSW. This track is wet at the best of times, and this is not the best of times. Don't be fooled by the first "ok it's wet but not that bad" bit, or the second "well I see what you mean but I still managed" bit. Either take the detour S,W and N again (these are very good tracks) and accpet an extra 600m, or be prepared for wading through a really quite smelly bog. Having done this go uphill to a gate in the deer fence and a stile clearly intended for giants. Over the fence follow the good path for about 200m then there is a mown path through the heather. Good running, but on a bike you get bits of heather in your gears. This path goes all the way to the top (or at least it looks like the top, it's all a bit vague) then I followed it SW to the next hill (also 354m high), then N and back to the track I had originally been on. There are various other options, and you could almost certainly get down to the Feugh. The main track goes on to a very good track that links Glem Cat with Feughside. This whole area is worth exploring - there are capercaillie in the woods and lots of good running tracks. Apart from the main tracks though you're better off leaving the bike at home.

Linked in with Glen Cat / Birse track see [86]. Lovely hill top with some nice old pines still surviving.
