[90] NO 61418 86575 Clachnaben

19/12/07 Sarah

It was a cracking day, perfect for bagging my 50th point at last. Took the tourist route up from Glen Dye and then straight back down the same way. Would have been nice to have carried on further, but the legs were tired and the Christmas cards weren't going to write themselves (although maybe Jon would actually have started them if I'd taken a bit longer....)

Here I am looking happy, if slightly lop-sided.

09/07/07 Dave H. Tried to find a new and exciting bike route up here, and failed. I biked up the path the hill race takes for the first couple of miles, ie started from the Cairn o'Mount road at 347903 and followed the track right to the top of Airy Muir. This is hard work but manageable. I hoped there would be a path of some sort on from here, but there is nothing but heather, bog and peat hags between the end of the track and the col between Edendocher and Clachnaben. This would be tedious even without a bike to push. From the col there is a muddy path to the summit. It was a beautiful evening (for once) and it would make sense to ride from here to Mount Battock, but I was getting hungry so I took the direct route back, ie down the tourist path. Again not recommended. Lots of very steep and narrow rock staircases. Probably rideable by the very keen (and skillful) but I would have needed full body armour and someone else's bike to give it a go. Parts are ok, but it's definitely not an easy option. I suspect the easy option is to leave the bike at home and run.

Walked up here with boys and my dad. Dry day but a little cloudy which comprimised the view a bit. Loads of people up here. The carpark was full by the time we got back.
Will probably attempt running this at a later date - promises, promises......
