Walked here across Brackenstake from point 86. There's a path up the first part of the hill, but then there is a lot of heather between you and Carn Ferg. Cold and windy all the way, but no rain. Walked NE down the hill then turned right and down to Glencat where we had left the car. Well under 2 hours walk altogether.

Found a great route up Carnferg. Highly recommended. Start at Ballater, railway path to Cambus, over to the Vat, round Loch Kinord, cross river at Dinnet, over to Braeloine, down stream a bit, then up hill to the Guard, and on to the top. Down the other side back to my house. Thirty kilometres. About three hours.

This hill is one of the best viewpoints in Deeside on a good day. This was not a good day. It was sunny when I set off, and sunny when I finished, but misty on the top. No matter, biked in from near Balfour along the track past Newmill, up to the Fungle , then about 1km after the signpost to Aboyne turned up the hill. It's all rideable though a bit eroded in parts. The descent on the other side is much steeper and rutted, but fun if you like that kind of thing. Once you get into the trees the track is much easier. 45mins up and 15 down or thereabouts.

Had some freetime Sun afternoon so with the sun shining I set off running from my house. Headed along the River Dee over the Aboyne bridge and then up the fungle. As the Fungle single track ended I took the hill runners route straight up and got to the top an hour after leaving the house. No photo as I was travelling light. Came back down the Land Rover track and back the same way. 1h 53min, tired legs and a big smile :-)

Claimed my first point with a Friday morning run up Carnferg with Jon, while Ewan entertained the ladies in the creche. Ran up the E track from Birse, then back down the Fungle, returning via Birsemore Loch [84] for point number 2. Feeling sluggish on the hill, but ran all the way.
