Biked up from Tombae, intending to bike up here, then run up Pannanich. Trouble was, when we had got up the big climb to the gate, Ben and Kathy refused to ride any further and insisted on running. So I biked up the very easy track while they struggled up behind. They needed to sit down when they finally got to the top. After running back down to the bikes they then decided that there was too much heather between us and Pannanich, so we biked back down to the car. Oh well, I enjoyed my 5th trip up Black Craig this year.

Another Challenge-in-the-Dark point. Ran up from Tombae on the south Deeside road, parking a bit up the track where there is plenty of space. Followed the track towards Etnach for a while then cut directly up the hill. Had to guess at the top whether to go right or left and got it wrong, so visited Craigrae Beg before turning round and going the right way. Gail tried to make up for a rather dim head-torch by wearing very bright clothes. Beautiful evening, no moon but lots of stars and no wind. Went on over Slai na Gour, down the very heathery slope onto the path, followed it north to the woods then west along their edge. The final bit down the hill is very boggy. To our astonishment we came out exactly at the car. Took two hours but we weren't in any hurry.

Continued from Creag na Slice to Black Craig following the fence line along the high point of the ridge. There's no proper path but the going's not too bad through the heather near the fence line. The view to Dinnet Lochs is from part way along the ridge. Not having read Dave's post befo=re I left, I dropped fairly directly from the top of Black Craig to pick up the Mount Keen track. This was a bit messy through the bog and brashed / brackeny woods - perhaps not to be recommended to road runners.

Had a sore foot tonight so instead of running biked over to Glen Tanar via this hill. Took the track from just west of Deecastle on the south Deeside road towards Etnach in Glen Tanar, then just after the gate at the top turned sharp left onto a fairly indistinct track. This is rideable all the way over Craigrae Beg ot Black Craig, although it is quite overgrown by heather some of the way. From the top there are views of Mount Keen, Lochnagar and across the Muir of Dinnet. The track continues, turning right and going straight down the hill. Still rideable though you will want to hang on to your brakes. It finishes on the Mount Keen track immediately north of the bridge by Half Way Hut. If you want to run here, a better option is from the top car park at Glen Tanar, a very nice track traverses the hill from 454951, though there is a short climb through the heather to get to the top. You can take in point 63 on the way out or back as well.
