An amazing Challenge-in-the-Dark record of 6 Deeside Runners came out on a very clear but rather windy evening to chase angels up the Coyles of Muick. Took the route I took on my bike (below), but at the point where the track takes a long detour around the east side of the hill we went straight up through the woods, or rather through the sea of fallen trees (from 330923 to the summit). Came back on the bike route along the side of the trees, where we panicked a big herd of red deer. Wanted to do Craig Phiobaidh as well but ran out of time.

Cycled in from Loch Ullachie to 325910 - bit of a climb up from here (in cleats). Phone (camera) dead by now - bit like us - but couldn't have done justice to the views anyway
Approached this on foot using a similar route to D+K, but cut from the track on the NW side of the hill and made straight for the summit through the forest (only 7 mins from there). Good view to Lochnagar and back down to Ballater. Continued on to Creag Phiobaidh [50] before returning by Loch Ullachie. ~85 mins running.
07/07/07 Dave and Kathy. Came here with a group of friends as part of our "Challenge your friends to do the Challenge" challenge. We were all very pleased to have survived the expedition, as you can see in the picture. We biked up from the south Deeside road near loch Ullachie. Went east for a short distance then turned into the forest, and made our way on very good gravel roads up to the col just south west of this point. This is a very easy ride, then a 5 minute walk. The descent is one of the best bits of singletrack riding I know. Go along the edge of the forest to 331935 where it turns to the right, and cut across the heather to the forest edge due north. Then go left and quite steeply down to the gate and track that goes back to the start. It's all good fun. Or at least that's my opinion.
