Just to prove we aren't neglecting the Challenge-your-family-to-do-the-Challenge Challenge, we popped up here on our way home from collecting the Christmas Goose. It was rather lovely in the late winter sun. Here's a new challenge: Is my mum (83) the oldest person to do at least one challenge point?

Popped up to Tomnaverie as a warm-up before my run. Had been planning to head up to the Eagle, but changed my mind and made for Lazy Wells - Pressendye instead. Magic winter light made for a special atmosphere at the circle.

We arrived at Tomnaverie on bike ex-Queen’s Hill 76. We were taking advantage of the brilliant weather on the last day of April and it really emphasized the saying – location, location, location. Whereas the view from the top of Queen’s Hill is limited, here we were on a bump on the landscape with a 360 degree view of a large chunk of Tarland and Deeside. Could have lingered for a while but the evening was wearing on and the thought of the long drag out of Tarland over Queen’s View back to Tullochvenus weighed heavy. Heading home.

Dave and Kathy claim their first point. From here you can see at least 12 other controls. Those prehistorics had remarkable foresight. Here is Kathy running towards the circle, with another control, Creag Lichd, in the background. It is possible just to walk up from the car park, but there is a nice 30 min run waymarked from the centre of Tarland which is more interesting. It goes very close to Strathweltie so you could call in for a cup of tea on the way.
