Biked here from the Braeloine car park - more or less the reverse of Dave and Kathy's route - then returning to Aboyne in under an hour. Forgot my camera, so no photo to add.

Biked here from the Glen Tanar carpark, just before it got dark. Went NE towards Bridge of Essfor 1km or so, then turned R and up the hill to the Baudy Meg Crossroads. Long slog up but great ride back from the top. Took the picture at the top of the climb, it was too dark by the time we got to the point.

This point is nothing special in itself, but it is in one of the best parts of the glen Tanar pinewood, and the approach from the north gives a great view out toward Mount Keen. I cycled in from the Birse road with Jon - I thought it was quite a straightforward ride, but he looks a bit traumatised here. On the way you can see two round stones on plinths in the moorland to the east of the track. These mark where some Edwardian shot a stag at what was then considered to be a very long range.

"some Edwardian" was william cunliff brooks, the laird of glen tanar. he's the dude responsable for most of the buildings in glen tanar and the wells around the estate with "rest and be thankfull" or somthing like that on them. side challange visit the wells???
