[29] NO 26026 86075 Meickle Pap

29/12/07 Sarah

Had planned to go round Loch Muick and up to Dubh Loch, but it was a cold and windy day and the sun shining on Meikle Pap made it look rather more enticing. Headed straight out and bcak by the Lochnagar tourist path, as ever taking great pleasure in running past heavily laden walkers. By the time I got back Jon and Ewan had managed to walk all the way across the valley to the bothy for a picnic lunch, and back again.

After running to Loch Nagar it was just a wee jaunt up to the top of Meikle Pap. Big boulders covered in snow slowed me down a bit. I had visions of getting a foot wedged between 2 boulders but managed to get up no problems. Pretty windy at the top.

Parked in main car park. Weather ok until the col and then it RAINED!! A great introduction to the Scottish hills for our swedish friends!

This was stage 1 of my circumnavigation of Lochnagar. Biked in from Balmoral to the top of the Lochnagar track. Took an hour so it would certainly have been quicker to run from Loch Muick, but where's the fun in that? Only took 15mins back down. Ran up the tourist path then deviated right to the top of the Pap. 20mins running. Fantastic weather - warm, no wind, good visibility. Just like April. Went on down to the loch.

Peter 10/09/07 Up and down after work. Have never run down lochnagar this way (normaly go down by the waterfall) and i dont think i will again, very tricky over the rocks at dusk!!!
